What I Do

DEEP MYOFASCIAL MUSCULAR AND SKELETAL RELEASES

Fascia is the soft tissue component of the connective tissue that provides support and protection for most structures within the human body, including muscle. This soft tissue can become restricted due to psychogenic disease, overuse, trauma, infectious agents, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and corresponding diminished blood flow. Although fascia and its corresponding muscle are the main targets of myofascial release, other tissue may be affected as well, including other connective tissue.[2]

As in most tissue, irritation of fascia or muscle causes local inflammation. Chronic inflammation results in fibrosis, or thickening of the connective tissue, and this thickening causes pain and irritation, resulting in reflexive muscle tension that causes more inflammation.

Indirect myofascial release

The indirect method involves a gentle stretch, with only a few grams of pressure, which allows the fascia to 'unwind' itself. The dysfunctional tissues are guided along the path of least resistance until free movement is achieved.[1]The gentle traction applied to the restricted fascia will result in heat and increased blood flow in the area. This allows the body's inherent ability for self correction to return, thus eliminating pain and restoring the optimum performance of the body. This concept was suggested by Paul Svacina to be analogous to pulling apart a chicken carcass: when it is pulled apart slowly, the layers peel off intact; too fast, and it shreds.

The indirect technique originated in osteopathy schools and is also popular in physiotherapy. According to Robert C. Ward, myofascial release originated from the concept by Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathic medicine in the late 19th century. The concepts and techniques were subsequently developed by his successor. Robert Ward further suggested that the term Myofascial Release as a technique was coined in 1981 when it was used as a course title at Michigan State University. It was popularized and taught to physical therapists, massage therapists, occupational therapists and physicians by John F. Barnes, PT, LMT, NCTMB through his Myofascial release seminar series. BIO-ENERGY THERAPY

What is Bio-Energy Therapy?

Bio-energy Therapy is a safe, non-invasive and highly effective form of energy medicine. It is termed "bio-energy" - the energy of life. Every cell is surrounded and supported by this energy which also acts like a miniature wire, providing both a blueprint for the physical body and also as an information network between the body, mind and spirit. The basic principle underlying the therapy is that when we are healthy and life is good our system's energy freely flows and helps us maintain health and well-being. Stress, illness, injury and emotional discord disrupt this flow. Bio-energy also extends out with the physical body, creating a low frequency electromagnetic field, commonly known as an aura. In a larger context, bio-energy is an inseparable component of Energy.

We are more than a simple biochemical mass. We are also an energetic being. Ancients healing traditions both acknowledge and treat using these principles.

How do Bio-Energy Practitioners Work?

Practitioners use the enhanced sensitivity of their hands to scan the energy field surrounding the body with the purpose of determining where energy is flowing and where it may be blocked. They then simply work to clear these interruptions and restore a healing flow of energy to the bio-energy field. This allows the body's self healing mechanisms to kick in.

What can You Expect From the Session?

The therapy is a non invasive therapy that requires no special equipment, oils or physical manipulation. You remain fully clothed and most report the sessions to be deeply relaxing. Some people are naturally sensitive to their bio-field being worked and may experience sensations of heat, coldness, air or tingling. Others simply enjoy a space to unwind and relax.

Bio-energy Therapy is safe and suitable for everyone from the elderly to the very young and is also effective with animals. There are currently no known interactions with either pharmaceuticals or other forms of alternative health care. As the practitioner works with an individual and not any diseased label put upon a person, people from all walks of life and in all states of health can find that their well-being and performance can improve.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

What is CranioSacral Work?
Equine CranioSacral Work is very effective in the treatment of certain conditions of the horse. The technique seems to work very deeply in the body. The reason for this is because one is working directly with the central nervous system.

Brief History
CranioSacral Work, which originated from the work of osteopath Dr. William Sutherland DO, in the early 1900's was originally called 'craniopathy' and was derived from osteopathy. It was later called 'CranioSacral Therapy' by Dr. John Upledger, DO from the Upledger Institute, and 'Visionary CranioSacral Work' by Dr. Hugh Milne, from The Milne Institute. Now the work is being taken over to the equine world with much success.

The Equine CranioSacral System
The CranioSacral system of the horse is made up of several parts: the bones of the cranium or the head, the sacrum or tailbone, and the spinal column. CranioSacral work traditionally specialized in the head, spine, and sacrum, but it is not limited to those areas, nor is it limited to the physical.

Equine CranioSacral Work uses sensitive and exact finger pressure. Pressures are exceedingly gentle and there is no bone manipulation. The measurable amplitude of the cranial wave (a discreet, muscular pulsation delivered by the cranial bone) is between 40 microns to 1.5 mm. in movement according to different authorities, less than half the thickness of dental paper. The movement cannot be seen, but can be palpated in a meditative state.

Twists, similar to that of a telephone cord, can occur in the dural tube, (encases and protects the spinal column), affecting the cranial wave and creating an imbalance in the horse's body. A head injury can affect the hind end and a hind end injury can affect the head of the horse. The body then stops functioning optimally, affecting the horse's performance, behavior, and sometimes its nutritional intake.

Sutures, or joints between the cranial bones, allow for movement and help disperse the impact of a blow when an injury to the head occurs. Cranial bones, like all bones, are alive, with a significant amount of blood supply making them pliable. If they weren't, they would shatter on impact, like a china plate.

When an injury or trauma occurs, it gets 'stuck' in the tissue of the horse and is stored in the cell memory of the tissue until released. The practitioner or healer learns specific hands-on techniques to palpate the cranial wave anywhere on the horse's body. Also learned are specific hands-on contacts for cranial bones and the bones of the pelvis to treat different conditions of the horse, thus assisting the body to correct itself. The body has an incredible self-healing mechanism. The horse's restrictions can come from a physical trauma of any kind, including chemical, as well as an emotional or spiritual trauma. Each affects the other.

CranioSacral therapy can help the following conditions:

  • Facial nerve paralysis
  • Headshaking
  • Head injuries and traumas
  • Emotional problems
  • Lameness
  • TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint Dysfunction)
  • Colic
  • Blocked tear ducts
  • Castration
  • Cribbing
  • Spinal injuries
  • Hind end injuries, etc.

PHOTONIC LIGHT THERAPY

Safe, simple, effective and pain free.

Quite simply, photonic therapy stimulates acupuncture points without needles and acupressure points without pressure.

Photonic or red light therapy is a non-invasive, self-administered, pain free method to promote wellness and provide treatment for a variety of health issues in humans, horses, dogs and cats.

Photonic therapy, also known as red light therapy, is a light application that can be used in conjunction with traditional modalities (acupuncture or acupressure) or by itself.

Photonic therapy utilizes red light within a specific nanometer (660nm) range to clear, balance, and energize the body in an effort to promote optimal health by stimulating acupuncture and acupressure points under the skin without using needles or pressure.

The Best of Both Worlds- Scientifically Proven and Energetically Aligned!

For the western medical sleuth, this technology has been scientifically studied for over 20 years. Researchers, in published medical studies, have discovered this really works by:

Reduces pain by increasing endorphin production, a natural pain killer.

Reduces inflammation-suppresses enzymes that create swelling, redness, and pain, and boosts the release of anti-inflammatory enzymes.

Cellular regeneration- by stimulating the mitochondria within the cell, ATP production is increased. Increased ATP production allows damaged cells to accept nutrients quicker and to eliminate toxins.

       Increases lymphatic drainage
Increases circulation

       Speeds healing

Relaxes tight muscles and quickly releases muscle cramps

Anti-viral properties- increase antibody production in the blood stream to allow the body to fight off viruses.

Increases Collagen production- A primary protein vital to the structure of tendons, bones, skin, teeth and cartilage.

Regulates Serotonin levels-Serotonin acts as a mediator of inflammation and allergic reactions. It plays an important role in blood clotting, stimulating a strong heart beat, initiating sleep and fighting depression. It also stimulates the smooth stomach in the intestinal wall.

       Annihilates viruses

And from a Holistic, Eastern Perspective

Stimulates acupuncture & acupressure points encourages the body to induce natural healing and improves functioning.

Balances Chi- chi is life force energy-without it, living creatures would die.

Unblocks meridian lines-channels of energy run in patterns through the body and on its surface. These energy channels, called meridians, are like plant root that feed through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues. An obstruction in the meridians is like a dam that backs up.

Chakra work-There are seven physical chakra points with about a hundred smaller secondary chakras. The smaller points are sometimes called meridians and acupuncture points. Chakras play an instrumental role in your health and well-being, if left unbalanced.

EMOTIONAL RELEASES

Horse emotions are not very different from human emotions. Most of us don’t think that our animals have emotions, but they do and it effects their lives more than we know.

For horses, emotions play such a vital part in how they train, ride and socialize with other horses. Trainers and owners deal everyday with the emotions of both horse and riders.

What is an Emotion?

Here is one definition of emotion:

An emotion is a physiological and mental state associated with a feeling, thought and/or behavior.

Emotions can be negative or positive. Examples of negative emotions are anger, abandonment and grief. Positive emotions are happiness, security and harmony.

According to the above definition, animals behave according to their emotional state. So, if they are scared, they may run or fight/aggressively depending on behavioral patterning.

What is an Emotional or Behavioral Pattern?

When animals first learn to respond to a situation they start to develop a pattern or way to handle them as in our example above. Depending on a many factors, they learn to respond in different ways and sometimes in a negative way that is harmful to us.

Once the response is learned, the stimuli will produce the pattern unless it is changed or released. Good emotional patterning we don’t want to change; but unhealthy patterns we would like to change!

Why is it Unhealthy if we don’t Release Emotions or Patterning?

If negative horse emotions are not released then they can produce poor emotional patterning that eventually leads to emotional and physical pain or disease. It also affects their relationship with us.

Many times if the body can not handle a traumatic experience or painful emotion it stores it on a cellular level until it can be released. It will store it in a specific portion of the body, and cause issues that can affect health and performance.

Emotional patterning determines likes and dislikes, habits, ability to socialize, attitude and reaction or response to everything! Whether it is human, animal/horse emotions, they can literally control behavior on a subconscious level. Unless, they are released!
